How to Install a Raptor Style Grille on Your Ford Transit Custom
Partager
Upgrading your Ford Transit Custom with a Raptor-style front grille is one of the most impactful styling modifications you can make — and the good news is that it's also one of the easiest. No drilling, no specialist tools, and no trips to a body shop. Here's exactly how to do it.
What You'll Need
- Your new Raptor-style grille (from Van Parts Supply)
- Flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool
- 10mm socket and ratchet (some models)
- 20–30 minutes of your time
Step 1: Identify Your Transit Custom Year
Before you start, confirm you have the correct grille for your van. The Transit Custom has three distinct generations, each requiring a different grille:
- 2012–2018 (MK1) — Original Transit Custom with rounded front
- 2018–2023 (MK2) — Facelifted model with updated bumper design
- 2024+ (MK3) — Latest model with completely redesigned front end
Check your V5 registration document or look at the grille profile to confirm which generation you have.
Step 2: Open the Bonnet and Locate the Fixing Points
With the bonnet open, look at the back side of the factory grille. You'll see a series of plastic clips running along the top edge and sides — typically 6 to 8 fixing points depending on your year.
On most Transit Custom models, there are no bolts — the grille is held entirely by push-fit plastic clips.
Step 3: Remove the Factory Grille
Starting from one side, insert a flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool between the clip and the surrounding panel. Apply gentle outward pressure to pop the clip free. Work your way along the top, then down the sides.
Tip: Don't force the clips — if you feel resistance, double-check you've located all fixing points first. A common mistake is missing the lower centre clip.
Once all clips are free, the factory grille will pull forward and out from the front of the van.
Step 4: Prepare the New Raptor Grille
Before fitting, check that the Raptor grille has all the matching clip positions to your factory grille. The grille from Van Parts Supply is specifically engineered for each Transit Custom generation, so the clip pattern should match exactly.
If your new grille includes FORD letter inserts or additional trim pieces, now is a good time to fit these before installation.
Step 5: Fit the Raptor Grille
Align the new Raptor grille into the bumper aperture, starting from the centre and working outwards. Once correctly positioned, press firmly on each clip point until you hear a positive click. Run your hand along the top and sides to ensure all clips are fully engaged.
Give the grille a gentle tug to confirm it's securely fitted — it should feel solid with no movement.
Step 6: Close the Bonnet and Admire Your Work
Close the bonnet and step back. Your Ford Transit Custom has just been transformed — and it only took you 15–20 minutes.
Compatibility Reminder
Always order the grille specifically designed for your Transit Custom year. Using a grille for the wrong generation will result in a poor fit or may not fit at all. If you're unsure which grille you need, browse our full Transit Custom grille range — filtered by year.
